Care Guidelines

• Diet: Omnivorous with a preference for hearty foods. In the wild, they pluck invertebrates from rock crevices. In the aquarium, they thrive on high-quality cichlid pellets, flakes, and regular protein treats like frozen mysis shrimp, krill, or brine shrimp.

• Aquarium Decor: Ample swimming room is vital. Provide a spacious aquarium with a fine sandy substrate and large, sturdy rock structures arranged to form caves and crevices while leaving the upper and middle water columns entirely open.

• Tankmates: Best housed in large setups with other robust Lake Malawi Haps, Peacock cichlids, or large Synodontis catfish. Avoid housing them with overly aggressive Mbuna or fish small enough to be viewed as a snack.
